Background
Botswana Football League (BFL) is a company established to administer and professionalize football at the elite level in the country. It was formed in 2020 to stand as an independent entity to, among other things, source sponsorship for its growth and identity. The company has got 16 shareholders, who basically are the chairpersons of the clubs playing in the elite league. There is a board of governors comprised of seven directors. Moreover, the company is made of 13 employees who run day to day activities of the league affairs. The 13 employees are headed by the CEO, who according to police and governance, reports to the board.
Gaborone United was the first to be crowned the champions of the premier league since its new establishment in 2020.
